Embracing the Grandmillennial Style in Photography

What is “Grandmillennial” or the “Coastal Grandma” Aesthetic?

“Grandmillennial” or “Coastal Grandma” refers to the revival of traditional styles with a fun new spin on patterns, textures, and color in textiles such as fabrics and wallpapers. This style creates a sense of nostalgia and charm through its pastel color palettes, natural textures, and vintage-inspired decor.

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of this playful aesthetic! I love the flirty floral patterns, lively colors, and the subtle nod to historic charm. I’ve incorporated this classic style into my own photography work by blending the film aesthetic that features organic tones with a more updated lifestyle approach to photography.

When brainstorming and planning clients portrait sessions, I always consider the overall purpose and emotions clients want photographed. Locations are carefully curated to maintain a timeless look, and once a location has been selected, the next step of the planning process is the wardrobe. I will always recommend sticking to a pastel or neutral color palette, regardless of the season, as it photographs beautifully.
